Production

LB Bulgaricum has two production subdivisions in Sofia and Vidin, where, in parallel to the production of dairy products that are well-known and appreciated by each Bulgarian, we also produce a range of new varieties, which are the result of our research efforts and advanced technologies.

The quality of the products manufactured in the two subdivisions is guaranteed by the daily control exercised by qualified specialists in one of the laboratories in the country with the best equipment.

As a result of the successful implementation of projects under Operational Programme “Competitiveness”, LB Bulgaricum has managed to introduce new equipment and to modernise the existing facilities for production of starters, fresh and durable dairy products.

n September 2015, a new production line was designed and commissioned at the production facility in the city of Vidin, for production of milk and a probiotic drink with hypolipidemic action for application in nutritional therapies. Several months earlier, the largest fermentation system for production of starters in Bulgaria was installed at the production facility in the city of Sofia, along with a new lyophiliser and a microfiltration system, which helped us triple our capacity for production of lyophilised foods and created preconditions for LB Bulgaricum to turn into the largest producer of highest-quality starter cultures in Bulgaria.

License

The licensing activity of “LB Bulgaricum” has a successful history of half a century. It is related to provision of know-how and technologies for production of authentic Bulgarian dairy products abroad through the conclusion of long-term license agreements.

The company’s foreign partners are companies with long-term experience in the production and sale of milk and dairy products, with leading market positions in their respective countries.

The widest variety of dairy products produced under the license of “LB Bulgaricum” is offered in Japan. Meiji Dairies Co. holds a market share around 50% with the products made based on Bulgarian technologies. Every day, 24 million Japanese people start their day with Bulgarian yoghurt. Our cooperation with the Japanese company does not just involve provision of know-how and delivery of starters. We also partner in joint research and development projects on the health effects of yoghurt consumption and on the creation of production technologies for functional foods.

Intellectual Property

As a result of more than half of century of research and development, “LB Bulgaricum” EAD owns a significant volume of industrial property, which includes patents, trademarks, as well as unregistered objects, such as technologies, methodologies and production expertise. Our company is an authorized user of the appellation of origin of the unique Bulgarian starter cultures for production of Bulgarian yoghurt.

“LB Bulgaricum” patents are mainly for the beneficial properties of unique strains of lactic acid bacteria and their inclusion in new probiotic products. All of them are part of the rich company’s collection.

LB Bulgaricum logo is registered as a trademark in the European union and in more than 20 countries all over the world. The company is in possession of large number of product trademarks, registered in Bulgaria, Europe and selected Asian countries.

The appellation of origin “Bulgarian starter culture for production of yoghurt” has registration in the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as an international registration under the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of origin.

The intellectual property of “LB Bulgaricum” is being continuously supplemented and enriched and renewed, which enables us to maintain our licensing potential and export positions and also provides us with a strong tool for fighting unfair competition.

Analysis and Control

Quality is of primary importance for the business development of “LB Bulgaricum” EAD. We strive to ensure continuous high quality of the products we make in order to satisfy the expectations of our consumers/clients. The products we make are consistent with a healthy diet and have been produced by the application of science-based technologies. We produce our products in full compliance with the specifications and recipes. The management team of “LB Bulgaricum” EAD strives to ensure and maintain a fresh and healthy climate in all company premises. The company is market-oriented, rather than product-oriented. We manage quality at all corporate levels. Every day, our specialists ensure that the company customers receive the products with the best quality only.

The incoming control on raw milk and other raw materials and resources we use guarantees that our dairy products will be only made with the input of high-quality raw materials and resources. Our products are manufactured in strict hygiene. We exercise daily sanitary control on the hygiene status of the production premises and facilities. Control is exercised at each level and stage of the milk processing technology. Each batch of finished product is controlled by the application of standardised analytical methods before being launched on the market.

We do not use milk powder or vegetable fats in the dairy products we make; we only use fresh cow, sheep and goat milk.

The company efforts have multiple focuses. The key ones are:

The company maintains and develops the introduced integrated management system in accordance with the requirements of the international standards BSS EN ISO 22 000:2006 and IFSv.6 in all its operations and units for the purpose of increasing the safety and quality of the manufactured products and in order to provide occupational health and safety.
