We, LB Bulgaricum, have a true biodiversity. The company has a unique collection of more than 1,000 strains of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria and more than 100 different starter cultures for original Bulgarian yoghurt and cheeses. The beginning was laid about 50 years ago with the isolation of natural microflora of traditional Bulgarian high quality dairy products. Nowadays specialists at the LBB Collection Laboratory keep and extend the collection by isolating new strains from traditional dairy products and natural sources. In the past few years bifidobacteria and lactobacilli of human origin have been added to the collection. The LB Bulgaricum collection is one of the riches in the world in number and variety of strains Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp bulgaricus – more than 600. The Laboratory also stores strains of Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp lactis. The Streptococcus thermophilus group is represented by more than 350 strains. The collection includes also more than 160 bifidobacterium strains and more than 120 strains of various kinds of lactobacilli of human origin. The LLB Collection Laboratory stores also unique symbiotic starter cultures for traditional Bulgarian yoghurt, starter cultures for white brined cheese, yellow cheese, and butter created by our specialists.
